Chain Smoking Politics

Chain Smoking Politics

It was just a curiosity at first. One that quickly turned into addiction.

The media, of course, was only too happy to deal.

But after four years, the taste is sour and, it appears, there’s just not the same excitement left any more. Trump promised walls. He promised greatness.

He promised to make you cool.

But he was just a pile of burning garbage, with toxic levels of mercury and lead.

My sincere hope is that Trump’s raison d’être is to make the population of the US/World so bored and desensitized with nonsense that we finally decide to get our collective shit together.

That would be the best case scenario at this point.

In the last 6 months alone, the air has been unbreathable. As if someone was standing over us with a smirk, forcing us to power through an entire carton as punishment for our sins.

It‘s a risky strategy.

We might decide to elect some half decent leaders just for a change of pace. It’d be nice, you know, to take a big deep breathe of fresh air.

But then, who is there?

Biden would be a return to normalized alcoholism. The socially acceptable drug. Whereas President Kanye West would be the equivalent of switching to hallucinogens.

Truth be told, we’re addicts without recourse. Trump might be extremely toxic and getting boring, but the options don’t look great.

Bernie, the quality bag of weed in this analogy, would have at least made things a little greener and mellow.

But he’s gone too.

Maybe there’s no real change until we hit rock bottom. Check into rehab. And reinvent ourselves as functional egalitarian democracies.

Until then…what’ll it be?

Cigarettes? Alcohol? or Acid?
